Preventive Health Screening — At Home!

EHP wants you to get the care you need when you need it. At-home testing gives you an easy way to take control of your health, so we will soon be sending to members no-cost at-home screening kits from our trusted vendor, LetsGetChecked.

At-home fecal immunochemical test (FIT) kits, to screen for colorectal cancer, and A1C and kidney disease (KED) test kits will be sent to members who opt in. If you are contacted by us, we encourage you to request your at-home test kit and to complete and return your sample to LetGetChecked. The tests are free to eligible EHP members.

FIT Kit

Colorectal cancer is the third leading cause of death from cancer in the U.S., but there’s a simple way to stay ahead of it: early detection. Screening is the most effective way to find cancer at an early stage, before a person has any symptoms and the cancer is easier for doctors to treat.

A FIT screening looks for tiny amounts of blood in the stool caused by bleeding polyps and small cancers in the colon. The test takes less than 20 minutes to complete. Adults aged 45 to 75 (and some adults 76 to 85) should have this test every year.

KED Test

A KED test is the best way stay ahead of kidney disease. Too often, diabetes may lead to kidney disease. It’s important to check the health of your kidneys with a KED test so that kidney problems can be caught early and preventive steps taken.

The KED test is simple urine test to check for small levels of a certain protein. Most people who have diabetes should have this test every year.

A1C Test

If you have diabetes or prediabetes, you may need this simple blood test to see how well you control your blood sugar. People who have diabetes track their blood sugar (glucose) levels daily, but the A1C test measures your average glucose levels over the last 3 months.

Most people who have diabetes need to have this test two or more times a year. Your doctor will use the test to guide your diabetes treatment and testing schedule.

Here’s how it works

  • You will receive a test kit with detailed instructions and a prepaid envelope to send your completed test to the lab.
  • Complete the test in the privacy and comfort of your own home.
  • Then, simply send it off to the lab in the prepaid envelope that came with your kit.

Soon after you complete your test and send it to the lab, you will receive results in the mail. If you have a primary care provider (PCP), a copy of your results will be sent to them. We encourage you to discuss your results with your PCP.
