Keep Your Family Safe This Halloween

Halloween is a favorite holiday for kids, but safety comes first. Here are key tips to make sure your children have a fun and safe trick-or-treating experience:

  • Young children should always have a parent or adult with them while trick-or-treating
  • Put reflective tape on costumes, shoes, and treat bags to help drivers see children in the dark
  • Teach kids to only visit well-lit homes with porch lights on and never enter anyone’s house or car
  • Children should stay together in groups and have a clear time to return home

Important Food Allergy Information

If your child has food allergies, Halloween requires extra planning. Many popular Halloween candies contain common allergens like nuts, milk, eggs, soy or wheat.

Children with food allergies must wait until they return home before eating any treats. Parents should carefully check labels on each piece of candy. Even candies that are normally safe might have different ingredients in “fun size” or miniature versions.

Safety Tip: Children with food allergies should always carry their epinephrine auto-injector during Halloween activities.
